Civilization VS organization
Civilization VS organization
I have recently visited the Moroccan city of Marrakesh
It was wonderful! It
was the first time I did not read up on a place I was due to visit. I did not
care about the history or the story of the place or country. I did not want it
to cloud my own perception by reading some account or perception by a writer.
It was a packed 3 days. We arrived on the Sunday night. We stayed at the traditional hotel- Moroccan House Hotel in Guilez part of Marrakesh. It is an up and coming European part of the city. This is the only dislike I had. See, around the corner from the hotel, you can find McDonald's where you can eat a McFondue. Next door, you can shop at Zara. Back in Europe I see.
But, sit next to the fountains next to McDonald's, look behind you and see the Botanical gardens. Lovely, if you have the nerve to cross the road. The fear of crossing a road was only overcome by my love of nature. It was in this experience, which I did several times just for the fun of it that I was struck by the thought of civilization VS organization.
For most people from first world countries, Marrakesh seems like a third world country in term of infrastructure, facilities and shopping. This is if you exclude the golfing developments on the outskirts.
Standing on the road side, wondering if I should attempt crossing with my 11 year old son, I was fascinated by the civilized manor, yet perceived as crazy, driving. I have never heard the horn on a car so many times a minute as there (excluding the Arc De Trio mph in Paris- surprise surprise). Yet, it worked. The traffic flowed and no accidents. It’s then that it struck me: Organization does not mean civilization.
The western world continually and may I add unsuccessfully try to organize everything. I mean everything- traffic, schools placing, shops, offices, neighborhoods, policing, pensions and the list goes on. The last year I have joined this club of organization. I have decided to jump off. It’s not real.
See, when organization takes over, civilization gets destroyed. Respect for each other, courteous and love falls by the way side. Look back at history and you will find the golden line. Civilization to organization to destruction.
Take a minute, no, an hour, no, a day, no a year, no, a life time to the last sentence: Civilization – organization- destruction! It’s real, it’s here and YOU are part of it. But YOU can change it.
Change YOUR way and see what the re-action is. Join an ethical society today, next week and for the future- yours, mine and our children need it. Change your bank, your shop, your attitude- use your horn not your attitude and make organisation more civilized. Have respect for each other, love each other no matter what.
I wow to move from organisation to civilization now. Join me if you dare.
Footnote: English is not my first language neither is Afrikaans any more- love is. There is no dictionary for love or grammar that is correct. It just is and you can have it if it matters.
